Pumps

With rising energy costs and green energy initiatives, the pump industry is challenged with producing designs with increasing levels of efficiency. CFdesign provides a comprehensive solution capable of simulating the entire range of industrial pump applications and pump specific speeds.

Design engineers employ CFdesign to optimize the flow performance of all types of pump characteristics from  single-suction, double-suction, multi-stage, axial and radial, double-volute, even positive displacement pumps such as sliding vane and gear pumps.

The classic pump design process requires costly manufacturing, assembly and physical testing to determine the viability of a design change or to generate a pump curve. Also, physical testing typically does not provide sufficient insight as to what exactly may be impeding performance.

By contrast, a process which leverages CFdesign, employs a much more economical virtual testing environment, providing immediate and detailed insight of flow performance so only proven design concepts are sent over for final validation testing. This results in shorten design cycles, lower costs and establishing a competitive advantage in the pump market.

Your existing CAD system is leveraged as the hub for conducting multi-scenario design studies. CATIA, CoCreate, Inventor, NX, Pro/Engineer, SolidWorks, Solid Edge, SpaceClaim.

make better pump design decisions.

CFdesign Solves Tough Problems

  • Determining optimal blade profile, pitch and number of blades
  • Optimizing volute shape to best suit the rotating device
  • Developing flow capacity and efficiency curves
  • Identifying required hydraulic torque and power
  • Identifying steady state and transient rotational speeds
  • Identify areas which fall below the fluid vapor pressure which could cause cavitation
  • Details of the flow separation, inlet angles, scroll exit profiles, shear stresses, stator vanes, and complex split volutes can be found anywhere in your CAD model along with the data normally obtained on a flow bench as output.

Customer Briefs

Cornell Pump Company has been helping set the industry standard for premium quality, efficient centrifugal pumps since 1946. Using the new CFdesign Motion and HPC modules they were able to generate a complete pump performance curve in 2 hours.
Finish Thompson, a designer and manufacturer of chemical process, drum and barrel pumps, used CFdesign upfront CFD software to double the efficiency of a new line of magnetic drive pumps while reducing total product development time by an estimated 33 percent.
